This is our first visit to this lovely old theatre in Seaton, Devon. It was rescued from closure by the community and is very well respected and demand is high, so this is expected to sell out very quickly.

The Gateway Theatre is a public building and was at risk of being sold off in 2010. A group of local residents worked together to take over the general running of the building and over the years have established it as an increasingly popular multifunctional venue. The group obtained a 30 year rolling lease in 2016 and Charitable status soon after.
The aim of the charity is to promote Arts & Culture within Seaton and the surrounding areas and to provide a venue for the numerous community activities and events. The wide and varied entertainment programme in turn helps to pay most of the upkeep of the buildings, ensuring it is available for community programmes.
We currently have over 100 regular community hirers. This ranges from toddler groups, keep fit for the active and less active, dance classes, a wide variety of specialist interest groups and provision for local clubs and groups to fundraise through their own events.
We work with local schools providing work experience in venue and stage management. We also provide the opportunity for youths to join our workshops in Theatre Productions with our Sound and Lighting Technician Paul Hodgkiss. We are working towards having a Youth Theatre, incorporating Drama, Dance and Music Lessons.
We are in the process of applying for funding to fully refurbish the building to ensure it meets all the necessary requirements for future generations to come.
